Our Story

Welcome to PetPeople and thank you for visiting our site! We appreciate your interest in our company and hope you will visit us in one of our stores soon. Let us tell you a little about PetPeople: how we got started, what makes us different, and what we believe in.

History

The first PetPeople store opened in San Diego, California in 1993. After a number of years of successful growth, the owners decided to open an independent division in the Eastern United States. This division opened in 1997 and is headquartered in Columbus, Ohio. While the East and West companies are independent organizations, the stores are very similar in size, design, product and operations. We work closely together on pet related initiatives whenever possible.

The PetPeople Experience

We love pets and are sincerely interested in offering you the best products available for their health and well-being. We are highly selective about the products we carry and fully stand behind everything we sell. We carry the finest natural foods and treats available, as well as offer advice or answers to your questions.

Our goal is to provide you with a great shopping experience in a spotlessly clean, well organized neighborhood store. We believe our stores are big enough to have the selection you need, but small enough to be convenient to get to and find what you want. We believe building a relationship with our customers is the key to our success. Not only is it important to us that you get what you need, but that you enjoy doing it. Our associates are friendly, knowledgeable pet enthusiasts that love what they do. They enjoy entertaining you and your pet during your visit as well as offering advice or answer your questions. We delight our customers and know that by doing so we turn customers into advocates for PetPeople.

Natural and Nutritious Foods

We are passionate about high quality, natural, wholesome, and nutritious pet foods and treats. We believe these products improve the health and well being of our pets. Our goal is to sell high quality products at competitive prices. Product quality to us is not just brand names and ingredients, but manufacturing and distribution controls, sourcing, and product flow that affect the freshness of the product you purchase. While we have high quality standards, we are open-minded and believe that there can be quality products at value prices.

Our People

We believe building long-term relationships with our customers is the key to our success and this relationship starts with our people. We look for people that are passionate about pets and want to share their passion with others. Our associates go to great lengths to satisfy and delight our customers and exceed their expectations on every shopping trip.

We believe training is critical to the development of our associates. The pet industry is changing rapidly with regards to new ideas and products. We work closely internally and with our manufacturers to train our associates so they can provide our customers with most up to date information available.

We believe happy associates provide better service and we strive to provide a fun work environment where motivated associates can flourish and succeed. We appreciate effort and reward results. We believe we are all one team and we depend on one another for our success.

Our Community

We are deeply committed to supporting local non-profit animal related charities. We do not sell dogs and cats, or allow anyone else to create profit in our stores doing so. Instead, we use our influence to educate the community about the important work of non-profit shelters and rescue groups.

We have amazing customers and store associates who are doing incredible work on behalf of unfortunate pets. We are very proud to be involved with these important groups and support their efforts. Not only do we make donations to these organizations, but we also coordinate fundraisers in our stores to raise awareness. We also financially support our associates who are doing community service on behalf of PetPeople.
