Warm weather can be a frustrating time for pet owners as their pets and homes are hit by a pesky flea invasion. Once fleas have infested your home, trying to get rid of them can be an unpleasant and tricky process. Left without treatment, fleas can become a major health concern for your pet. There are many products available, but it can be hard to decide which to use. The best solution is to prevent infestation in the first place, or at least catch and treat the problem in its early stages before a full blown infestation occurs.

Flea & tick collars typically contain chemicals such as imidacloprid and flumethrin. The material that the collar is made from allows for a slow and steady release of these chemicals throughout the pet’s coat. Many collars will last for months, such as the Seresto 8-month collars from Bayer. For external use on dogs over 7 weeks or cats (over 10 weeks) only. Do not use on other animals.
The patented Matrix system ensures that both active ingredients are slowly and continuously released in low concentrations. This avoids peak concentrations and ensures that concentrations are present in the hair coat over the entire period.
Frontline Plus is a topically applied flea and tick treatment and is used as a monthly application for dogs and cats over 8 weeks of age. The active ingredients in Frontline Plus are fipronil and S-methoprene in the dog formulas and fipronil alone in the cat formula. These ingredients are neurotoxins to invertebrates and they work by blocking stabilizing ions in the neurons of invertebrates causing hyper-stimulation of fleas and ticks, and then death.
